Kate creates experiences that turn strangers into communities through music, art, good company and a healthy dose of adventure. She goes off the beaten track to uncover forgotten gems brimming with bygone charm, taps into what makes them special, amplifies it, and sets the stage for the unexpected to play out.

About

Kate Berry is the Founder of OK Motels, and lives and works on Wadawurrung Country. Her work brings together unlikely characters through the common speak of music, art and good company to form communities. Hosting events that talk loudly about the far off nooks of rural Victoria, Berry doesn’t need gimmicks or billboards saying, “If you lived here you would be home by now”, to get you there, just some noise and a bit going on.

From Charlton to Geelong, and more on the horizon, OK Motels brings locals and blow-ins together in ways worth remembering. A good time out bush set against the backdrop of Australia’s best musical acts, the likes of Amyl and the Sniffers, Tropical F%#k Storm, Julia Jacklin, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and The Murlocs

Off the back of launching the cafe Switch Board in Melbourne’s CBD, Berry sparked a flame that has only spread. A love affair for creating community experience in overlooked places that has carried through in all that she does. From photographing for Frankie and Smith Journal, to launching Lunch Lady Magazine, Berry puts good use to the tool belt gained in her years in advertising and marketing. A fancy for delivering a good yarn to the masses, while remaining authentic and in touch with the communities she finds herself in.
